Nov  19th, 2008 Meeting Agenda

Next Wednesday's RTP-DIG meeting (11/19 @ 6 PM) features both a Dan Keever and Mark Hutchinson presentation. Dan will talk about his program that accesses the FedEx tracking database and produces e-mails to project staff. Part of Dan's presentation will be the translation of some .NET code into Delphi.

Mark will give a brief presentation on his August trip to California and visit to the CodeGear office.

If we're nice to him, Jon Sabol will likely show us his copy of Delphi2009.

We will meet at the Dreyfus Lab Auditorium on the RTI Campus. Visit the Directions link for directions and a map.

See you there,
Mark

DTALK Change

We are starting a new method of asking technical questions.  We will use the Experts-Exchange forum to post Delphi questions and then use our dtalk listserver to notify the RTP-DIG dtalk list members of the existence of the question.  Thanks to Dave Froehlich, we have our first question.  At last month's RTP-DIG meeting, Dave asked about a ClientDataset performance problem he's encountered.  It sparked a lively discussion, but wasn't resolved.  Since so many of the attendees were interested in this question, I realized that the use of the dtalk listserver lacked the ability to share responses with other dtalk members (we reply individually to the questioner and don't know about any other replies).  One BIG advantage of this change is the inclusion of non-dtalk Delphi developers in the question.  I've been participating in the Delphi forum for a while (as aikimark) and can vouche for the high level of the EE Delphi experts that comment on your questions.

Please let me know if you have any problems with this change to the use of our dtalk list.

I've asked the Experts-Exchange administrators if I can share some of my points with you.  They are evaluating my request.  For the time being, please sign up for a free account.  You will get 125 points with which to ask a question and accrue 5 points a day until you reach 500 points (the maximum you can award for a question).  If you have a question and need points, please email me and I will help you.  Here are the three steps to follow:

Step 1 -- Sign up for your free account (do this step only once)
http://www.experts-exchange.com/registerFree2.jsp?redirectURL=/ŽistrationSource=0

Step 2 -- When you have a problem, submit your question to the Experts-Exchange Delphi forum.
Step 3 -- use the RTP-DIG dtalk list to let the list members know about your question.  Please include the URL of the question with your email as well as a one sentence description of the question (usually the title of the Experts-Exchange question).

Call for Presenters:
Please let us know if you would like to speak at a meeting or do a Tip and Trick - even if it's just one.  It's great to see ingenious and resourceful work.

If your company would like to provide a "Product/Company Showcase" or other presentation, please let us know and we'll be happy to have your company come in.
